Progress: Selection of pressure
Organic pollution has been detected as the main stressor in the target countries. The effects of river damming, mainly due to structures for water abstraction (e.g. irrigation) and/or hydropower use are not as abundant.
Consequently the effect of organic pollution on the riverine ecosystem is investigated. In addition the effect of river damming on the macroinvertebrate community is observed at selected sampling sites.
Organic pollution may lead to nutrient enrichment and hence to increased algae growth. Consequently the community of aquatic invertebrates will alter. The new community differs from the reference community by taxa richness and quality. | |
Organic pollution may lead to oxygen depletion and hence to visible reduction phenomena like black dots. The new community differs from the reference community by taxa richness and quality. |
