Progress: Additional microhabitat sampling (AMS)

Information about life demands of aquatic macroinvertebrates of the HKH region, especially insect larvae, is sparsely known. The aim of AMS is to obtain information about life demands, mainly habitat preferences, of aquatic macroinvertebrates.

A guideline was produced how to take habitat specific samples, i.e. substrate-specific sampling. In addition an AMS site protocol was applied in the field during substrate-specific sampling. In the protocol parameters relating to the substrate were recorded like water depth and flow velocity.

Each partner country applied AMS and five substrate types per stream type were sampled in each country. From each substrate type five samples were taken. Altogether 604 substrate-specific samples were taken in the partner countries.
